MYSTERIOUS POND
for flute, oboe and piano
DUTATION: 10 minutes
INSTRUMENTATION: flute, oboe and piano
YEAR COMPOSED: 2004
Mysterious Pond (2004) by Lior Navok is a 10-minute trio for flute, oboe, and piano composed during an artist residency at the MacDowell Colony. Inspired by the nocturnal sounds and atmosphere surrounding a nearby forest pond—frog peepers, birds, distant howls, shifting light, and rustling leaves—the piece unfolds as a continuum of interconnected musical scenes. Commissioned by the “Sons et Couleurs au Musée” concert series with support from the Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation, it offers performers an evocative and imaginative addition to the repertoire for flute, oboe, and piano.
