We all smile while hearing the name Pinocchio: The wooden puppet with its growing nose, its creator Geppetto, the talking cricket, the cat & fox and of course blue fairy… We usually look at Pinocchio as light and careless, but the truth is that what lies beneath this vivid and colorful story is in fact sophisticated and heart-touching: This is the story about a puppet that learns the hard way how to find its identity, its own path in society, how to learn from a hard lesson, how to care for someone else and how to take responsibility. Pinocchio struggles within himself about good versus bad dilemmas, as they unfold one after the other in a most seemingly plain and amusing manner. Above other children stories, Carlo Collodi’s The adventures of Pinocchio presents a model of a story as an educator.
