HOPE CYCLES – String Quartet No. 2 (2004) by Lior Navok is a 24-minute one-movement work exploring the Israeli–Palestinian conflict through the lens of individual human experience. Commissioned by The Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation and composed for the Borromeo String Quartet, the piece portrays fear, instability, lamentation, hope, and cyclical fate. Drawing on motifs influenced by Maqam Hijaz and Jewish musical fragments, the quartet maintains a restrained yet emotionally charged atmosphere, offering a powerful and thought-provoking addition to contemporary string quartet repertoire.
