DRIPPING MINUTES - FROZEN YEARS for viola and piano
A Deeply Introspective Contemporary Work for Viola and Piano Dripping Minutes – Frozen Years (2017) by Lior Navok is an 8-minute and 30-second work for viola and piano exploring the contrast between psychological and real time. Dedicated to Tabea Zimmermann, this compelling piece offers deep emotional depth and a refined instrumental interplay, making it an excellent addition to the contemporary viola and piano repertoire.
About the Piece Dripping Minutes – Frozen Years explores the perception of time—its flow, suspension, and psychological elasticity. Slow‑moving events accumulate into a sense of stillness, creating a meditative atmosphere shaped by subtle shifts of color and pacing. The piece is ideal for professional violists and pianists, as well as advanced students developing control, pacing, and sustained expression. It works beautifully in contemporary chamber concerts, themed recitals on stillness, or intimate halls where quiet nuance can be fully appreciated.
Program Notes As the title suggests, Dripping Minutes – Frozen Years explores themes of time, the passage of time, and the contrast between psychological time and real time. In this slow‑paced piece, I depict certain events that pass by, yet collectively, they create a sense of time standing still.
Dripping Minutes – Frozen Years is dedicated to Tabea Zimmermann.
