light vs darkness piano music
Lumoniceptions is a solo piano cycle that explores the interplay of light and darkness, symbolizing the resilient nature of light – even when faint and fragile – as it triumphs over shadows. This work examines six distinct perceptions of light (from the Latin luminus).
In Marquee Bulbs, the bright, sparkling lights of a circus or theatre evoke excitement. Asphalt Mirage captures the shimmering effect of heat distortion on a hot road, where steam rises and creates an illusion. Neon Solitude evokes loneliness through the stark glow of a solitary neon light, which weakly illuminates a space, leaving it cold and desolate. Swifts at Twilight reflects the acrobatic movements of swifts as they glide through the evening sky, while Distant Shiplights creates an atmosphere of mystery as dim lights from far-off vessels pierce the darkness. Finally, The Beaconing Chapel provides a comforting light that beckons the weary traveler, offering hope and solace after a long journey through the shadows.
