About Luminoceptions
Luminoceptions is a 14‑minute solo‑piano cycle exploring six distinct perceptions of light — its fragility, its resilience, and its ability to emerge even through darkness. Written in 2024, the work blends minimalist clarity with expressive, atmospheric writing. Each miniature captures a different encounter with light, from theatrical brilliance to distant glimmers, forming a sequence of contrasting scenes that move between energy, illusion, solitude, and quiet hope.

Style: Six character‑driven miniatures exploring brightness, shadow, illusion, movement, and distant light.
Program Notes
Luminoceptions is a solo‑piano cycle that explores the interplay of light and darkness, symbolizing the resilient nature of light — even when faint and fragile — as it triumphs over shadows. The work examines six distinct perceptions of light (from the Latin luminus).
Marquee Bulbs evokes the bright, sparkling lights of a circus or theatre, full of excitement and anticipation. Asphalt Mirage captures the shimmering distortion of heat rising from a hot road, creating an illusion of movement. Neon Solitude portrays loneliness through the stark glow of a solitary neon light, illuminating a space that remains cold and desolate. Swifts at Twilight reflects the acrobatic movements of swifts gliding through the evening sky. Distant Shiplights creates an atmosphere of mystery as dim lights from far‑off vessels pierce the darkness. The Beaconing Chapel offers a comforting, guiding light — a beacon of hope and solace after a long journey through shadows.
