The Waiting Hours (2025)

Piano works by Lior Navok

This album presents four piano works composed and performed by Lior Navok between 2017 and 2023. Each piece reflects a distinct moment in time, capturing both personal and collective experiences through music.

  • Silent Streets
Written during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, this work portrays the haunting emptiness of cities under lockdown—streets once vibrant now eerily silent, echoing the uncertainty of those days.

  • Luminoceptions
A cycle of six short pieces, the title combines lumino (light) and ception (from perception). Each miniature explores a different facet of light—its brilliance, fragility, and its eternal dialogue with darkness.

  • Shimmer
The longest work on the album, Shimmer unfolds as a through-composed journey in three broad sections: slow – fast – slow. Its shifting textures and contrasts create a shimmering arc of sound, both meditative and dynamic.

  • The Waiting Hours
Composed in the aftermath of the events of October 7, 2023, this set of six miniatures reflects the many forms of waiting experienced in times of fear and uncertainty—waiting for the next missile, the next fragment of news, the unknown of survival itself. Each piece is a fragile meditation on the tension between dread and endurance.
