The Spanish Songs (1998) by Lior Navok is an 11-minute work for soprano, bassoon, and chamber orchestra, setting evocative poems by Antonio Machado. Inspired by soprano Monica Garcia and a desire to contribute to the bassoon repertoire, the piece blends traditional musical elements with Navok’s personal interpretation of Spanish color and atmosphere. Scored for soprano, bassoon, two clarinets, harp, celesta, percussion, and strings, the work offers a vibrant and expressive addition to the contemporary orchestral song repertoire.
