About Frozen Junctions
Frozen Junctions is a 13‑minute work for vibraphone, viola, and piano, composed in the summer of 2009 in Tel Aviv. Written in the midst of intense heat, the piece emerged inside a shaded, air‑conditioned apartment — a kind of temporary “igloo” set against the sweltering world outside. The distant sounds of traffic and car horns were the only reminders of the city’s heat and motion. This contrast between interior stillness and exterior activity shapes the character of the music. The trio moves between cool, suspended textures and subtle hints of the restless world beyond the window, creating a landscape where time feels momentarily frozen. The work is dedicated to Sarah Bob and Aaron Trant, who also gave the premiere.

During the scorching summer of 2009, I found myself composing Frozen Junctions in a shaded, air-conditioned apartment in Tel Aviv. The distant traffic and honking sounds were the only reminders of the bustling, steamy world outside the composer’s igloo.
