Lior Navok – Biography

Artistic Credo

I write music that builds worlds. A piece often begins with a single image — a color, a gesture, a character, a small scene that catches my attention — and I follow it until it becomes sound. I think visually: ideas turn into textures, movements into rhythm, and atmospheres into musical color. The world is full of characters to portray musically, and I’m drawn to the quiet logic by which an image grows into music.

My work is shaped by the present moment — by the questions, tensions, and impressions that define the time we live in. These elements enter the music naturally, not as statements, but as material. I compose by crossing between cultures, images, and states of mind, creating spaces where listening becomes a way of seeing. Each piece invites the listener into a world built from a single image that expands into its own landscape.

I work with pencil, eraser, and paper, shaping each note by hand until it finds its place. Some ideas emerge at the piano through improvisation; others arrive at the desk, away from the instrument, where the ear imagines what the hands have not yet played. The method changes with the material, but the goal remains the same: to let the music grow with clarity and intention.

I see performers as partners in this process. The images and characters that begin a piece are only the starting point; they come fully alive through the imagination and presence of the musicians who shape them. Every interpretation adds its own color, perspective, and sense of movement, turning the initial image into a living world of sound.
