Works by Lior Navok composed between 1994–1998 present contrasting aspects of his early musical language. Each piece features distinct instrumentation and performers, recorded live on April 22, 1998.
The Spanish Songs (1998) for soprano, bassoon, and chamber orchestra set two poems by Antonio Machado. The work features Monica Garcia‑Albea (soprano) and Minako Taguchi (bassoon), with the chamber orchestra conducted by Lior Navok.
Composed four years earlier, V5 — Quintet for Vibraphone and String Quartet (1994) is written for vibraphone and string quartet. Performers include Matthew Masie (vibraphone), Miguel Pérez‑Espejo (violin), Ayako Gamo (violin), Katherine Vincent (viola), and Damien Ventula (violoncello).
The Sea of Sunset (1997) is scored for soprano, trombone, double bass, and piano. Performers are Jennifer Ashe (soprano), Tucker Dulin (trombone), Michael Bullock (double bass), and Lior Navok (piano).
Remembrances of Jerusalem (1995) is a prelude and variations for solo guitar, performed by William Riley.
The album’s title work, Meditations Over Shore (1997), is written for solo quartet, double chamber chorus, large double chorus, harmonica, percussion, and piano. It is performed by the New England Conservatory Chorus and the New England Conservatory Chamber Singers, conducted by Tamara Brooks.
