Islands in Shadow marks Lior Navok’s first album to include music by other composers, presented alongside nine new original works. Built as a structured sequence, each standard is paired with a prelude or postlude that connects it to the surrounding material. The program reflects two years of personal and global challenges, shaped by the idea that “Each of us is an island of light, even as the shadows of our time grow larger.” Through this format, Navok examines how familiar repertoire and newly written pieces can inform one another, creating a unified musical narrative. The title track, Islands in Shadow, and September Song serve as the central points of focus within the album.
