Now and again the light will travel fast, as car lights on a highway, sometimes it will travel slowly, like a dim spot coming from a distant ship. The intensity of light can range from a flickering candlelight to an intense bright beam that temporarily blinds the eyes. It can be direct or non-direct, it can flicker, shimmer, dim, increase, expand, focus… It can be masked by a cloud or fog, then reappear in a different form or intensity. It can wear different colors – white, blue, yellowish beam, reddish beam… from different materials – fire, electricity, gas… The first and third movements explore the fast and more direct light sources, while the middle movement explores the mysterious aspect of a distant-nearby light. Light Paths was commissioned by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra through the generous support of the Israel Ministry for Culture and Sport, “Kol Kore 2016.” VIEW SCORE

The Old Castle at Dusk is the longest movement of the piece, in which I tried to explore other timbres of this standard instrumentation. Two Gong beats connect this movement to the Elegy . As for the Drunken Ballerinas , my Image was of few dancers who dance while being influenced by alcohol. Darkness is an atmosphere movement, reflecting wondering. The first movement starts with a pastoral character, somewhat naive, but soon starts to raise some concerned thoughts, and so, ends dark. The second movement is a light flowing movement built on pentatonic scale theme. A Bassoon cadenza bridges between the second and the third movement, which is a long Passacaglia with lamento character. In the last movement, piccolo is used instead of flute. This movement opens with a fugue between the four instruments, which leads to a lyrical second theme followed by harp solo and ends with a “Grand Finale.” LISTEN Chamber Music with Harp
