“Periscopes” Premiere in London
Pianist Gila Goldstein has premiered “Periscopes” for solo piano in London’s South Bank Center on March 31, 2011
“A more impressionistic neo-Debussyesque and jazz-influenced idiom coloured Periscopes, a set of piano miniatures composed in 2010 by Lior Navok, here receiving its world première performed with finely honed shading and flowing impetus by the USA-based Israeli pianist Gila Goldstein. Its Schumannesque contrasts between the pithy musical vignettes explore prelude-like textures, eschewing the harsh dissonances of discontinuities, creating an idealised set of musical images, each of which ended as if in mid-flow, as if awakening from a dream. In its present form, eight of the full twelve movements were presented.”

“מהמלחינים הצעירים הפוריים ביותר במוזיקה הישראלית. קצרה היריעה מלהכיל את רשימת כל יצירותיו. כתיבתו לירית, אישית מאד, בשפה מוזיקאלית ברורה, שבבסיסה הכרות רחבה עם מסורת המוזיקה המערבית וטכניקות כתיבה של סגנונות מגוונים ותקופות שונות. בתחום הווקאלי כוללים חיבוריו של נבוק יצירות בעלות היקף רחב לסולנים, למקהלות ולאנסמבלים כליים בהרכבים שונים. מעורבותו הרגשית בולטת בדרך שבה הוא עורך את הטקסטים ליצירותיו והבהירות שבה משולב המלל במוזיקה. באמצעות המוזיקה שלו מצליח נבוק לשלב מלים וצלילים ולאחדם למהות אוניברסאלית בעלת משמעות הרבה מעבר לתוכן הקונקרטי.
על “בת הים הקטנה” – לשחקנית, לשני פסנתרים ולתזמורת קאמרית – על פי ה.כ.אנדרסן.(2006): “היצירה כתובה ברוח תמימה ובתזמור מעודן וצבעוני. על ידי שיתוף אנין של הכלים עם המספרת בטוויית העלילה, בהעצמת הדרמה המתחוללת ובתגובות הרגשיות, יוצר נבוק מעין אופרה זעירה – מופע איכותי וחינוכי מן המדרגה הראשונה, למבוגרים ולילדים גם יחד. המטאפורה המוזיקאלית מאירה באור ציני משהו את מערכות היחסים האנושיות מול תום ואמונה בטוב”.
על האורטוריה “והרכבות המשיכו להגיע….”, לקריינים, לסולנים, למקהלה ולתזמורת (2007): ” יצירה מהממת בעוצמתה. בשונה מן היצירות הרבות שניסו במשך השנים לתת ביטוי מוזיקאלי-אמנותי לתקופת השואה, בחר נבוק בגישה ייחודית, אחרי שערך תחקיר מעמיק רב-היקף במסמכים אותנטיים ממקורות שונים. התחושה שהזוועה שלא הייתה עד אז כמוה נתקלת באטימות ממסדית כמעט מוחלטת מועצמת על ידי הניגוד שמציב המלחין בין המוזיקה הלירית, הנוקבת, הזועקת ומתחננת לישועה – מפי הסולנים והמקהלה – ובין קריינים המבטאים את היובש הבירוקרטי של המסמכים ברוחם ובלשונם.

for ten wind players written for the commissioned by the Hochschule für Musik, Mainz for the Hindemith Quintet. Tetris is a new work for ten wind players – double wind quintet: two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons and two horns.

New Composition: “Guitar Concerto”
Completed on May 2010, the new Guitar Concerto is written for Brazilian Guitarist Luiz Mantovani, along with the Beer Sheva Sinfonietta, Doron Solomon Music Director. The work was commissioned by the Beer Sheva Sinfonietta, with funds from the Israel Ministry of Culture and a private donation, in memory of Adele and John Gray.
