Program notes:
Rosewood Staircase, as its name implies, looks at the marimba as a staircase of notes. The performer slowly climbs up and down through a slow compositional process. Unlike many solo marimba compositions, Rosewood Staircase is not fast or based on many leaps and jumps. It rather focuses on the unique marimba sound created through clusters. Its texture and dynamics are mostly delicate, giving the composition a meditative character.
