Program notes:
Meditation
is my second composition for solo guitar, preceding Remembrances of Jerusalem which was written five years earlier. In this piece, I was inclined to search for the slow, somewhat recitative gestures rather than the fast and strict. In addition, I took it as a challenge to avoid the characteristic guitar harmonies which usually happen as a byproduct of the open strings. From this aspect, Meditation is a constant search for new harmonies and colors within the boundaries of the traditional guitar tuning. Meditation is dedicated to Luiz Mantovani.
